About the event

We often cue our classes on auto-pilot, purely because it’s what we originally learnt, or have heard other instructors cue many times. But, the WHY and the WAY you cue can make an ENORMOUS difference for your clients….

In this workshop we really focus in on common Pilates terms, moves, ideas and concepts, and learn the actual WHY behind what we cue.  This will be beneficial to reformer, matwork and clinical Instructors.

Here's a few tasters of the concepts we’ll unpack in this workshop:

· NEUTRAL v’s IMPRINT – What do these things actually mean? Has the evidence actually changed around this? What is Neutral? What does Neutral feel like and mean for the body in front or you? How far should we imprint & why? What’s the benefit of Neutral? What’s the benefit of Imprint? If we have a choice of either in an exercise why would we choose one over the other?

· “I FEEL THIS IN MY NECK” – Is this good or bad for your client, or neither, or both!?  We’ll take a look at the biomechanics of how the neck muscles operate during the ab curl action, and what you might expect a client to feel. We look at how Pilates has historically combatted this problem, and what the evidence shows us now.  We’ll also cover how your own cues and language surrounding this can have a MASSIVE effect on your clients outcome.

· “MY HIP FLEXORS ARE OVERACTIVE” - We’ll take a look at the biomechanics of how and why the hip flexor muscles operate, and when your client might report this. What might you expect a client to feel? We look at why this feeling may happen, and the kinds of cues and language that may be so beneficial for this one…

· PELVIC FLOOR – has historically been cued a lot in Pilates! BUt how much should we actually cue this? If so, when and how? What’s the relationship with PF & Transverse Abdominus? What happens to the pelvic floor if the abs ‘pop’ or ‘dome’ in ab work? How can I best prop/position my client for optimal PF function if I suspect this is needed?

PLUS SO MUCH MORE!

There will be opportunity to ask questions throughout, as well as time set aside to bring your own questions for discussion.

PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is open to ALL schools of learning, and ALL styles of Pilates. It’s about sharing information and becoming a clear and positive instructor for your clients, and a more confident & knowledgeable instructor yourself.

ALL questions are welcome, this is a safe space to ask, discuss, and discover without judgement. We are all here to learn and share experience.
